Lockdown: US Embassy Update

Many US citizens with emergency passport appointments at the US embassy in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv office in the coming weeks are concerned that their appointments will be cancelled due to the national lockdown.

US Embassy officials have notified Chaim V’Chessed that they have not cancelled any scheduled appointments. Existing appointments remain scheduled as before, with no need for confirmation. However, if one wishes to cancel an appointment, they should email the appropriate office (jerusalemacs@state.gov or telavivacs@state.gov) to re-schedule for a later date.

Of course, those who plan on visiting the embassy are requested to follow all Ministry of Health’s guidelines, including:

  • Taking temperature
  • Covering your nose and mouth with a mask
  • Distancing yourself from others
  • Staying home if you show any signs of illness

The embassy officials added that some applicants have requested a letter of authorization from the embassy in order to travel to their appointment during the lock down. The embassy is unable to provide such a letter. Anyone with an emergency appointment at the embassy will have to try to explain their situation to the police, if stopped.
