Scores of families have begun returning to Israel from abroad. All passengers arriving from overseas are required to quarantine for 14 days after entering Israel. This applies to all, even if they may have recovered from Corona, except for those who receive a special exemption.
To our chagrin, Chaim V’Chessed has received multiple reports of returnees flaunting the quarantine requirement. Today, Rabbis of the Sanhedria and Ramat Eshkol areas issued a strongly worded letter on the topic.
The Rabbanim state: We are not dealing with some bureaucratic formality for which one seeks loopholes. It has been determined that the vast majority of those initially infected in Eretz Yisroel were exposed to asymptomatic carriers from Chutz La’aretz who violated the quarantine rules. Please, please understand that leniency with the directives of the health ministry could chas v’shalom cost lives. Your return cannot be at the expense of endangering the lives of the elderly and other high risk members of our society.
We urge all returning passengers to strictly observe this legal and halachic requirement.
