Many Jerusalem Residents at Risk of Losing Arnona Discounts

Published November 30, 2025 9:49 AM IST

Jerusalem Municipality officials relate that many residents are unaware of an important rule: anyone who received an income-based discount on their Arnona (local property tax) must pay all outstanding balances by December 31, 2025. If the balance is not paid by that date, the discount will be forfeited and the resident becomes liable for the full Arnona amount for the year.

Arnona is a local property tax charged annually to all property owners in Jerusalem. Residents who meet certain income criteria are eligible for discounts, which can provide significant financial relief.

Chaim V’Chessed has learned that many Jerusalem residents who are eligible for these discounts have not yet paid their 2025 bills, and a significant portion of these are English-speaking residents. Officials stress that it is imperative for those who have not yet paid to settle their bills promptly to avoid losing the financial relief they are entitled to.

Municipality representatives have told Chaim V’Chessed that any delay beyond the December 31 deadline will automatically cancel the discounts, leaving residents liable for the full Arnona payment.
