It’s a Team Effort

As our organization grows, both the number of people we assist and the ways in which we assist them grow, as well. That means that we have more staff members now than ever before, each with his or her own individual contribution to the organization and to the English speaking community as a whole.
Here we explore the different departments of Chaim V’Chessed and highlight the work they have been doing in this new and extremely busy spring season so far. Because helping an entire community that has come to rely on Chaim V’Chessed is no small task – it is a responsibility, and it is one that each of our departments takes seriously, as we each do our part toward furthering our concerted efforts.

Special Education & Children’s Therapies
The last of the vaadot hasamah, special education placement meetings, took place this past Thursday, May 30. This past month, the number of parents we assisted through the difficult application process reached its peak as the deadline approached.

Medical Logistics
With the influx of newly arrived students and families for the new yeshiva season this month, we have tirelessly advised hundreds of callers on arranging for health insurance coverage and navigating the Israeli healthcare system, aside from the various medical issues we normally assist with every day.

Hospital Assistance
There is never a dull moment in the hospital, especially for English speakers who are unfamiliar with the system. Our devoted hospital representatives continue to provide hope, companionship and advocacy to patients and their families who would otherwise have been alone and lost in Jerusalem hospitals.

Bureaucratic Assistance
This month, there has been a staggering amount of families who have received guidance from Chaim V’Chessed that translated into tens of thousands of shekels’ worth of disability and other pensions from Bituach Leumi. We have also assisted hundreds of newly arrived callers on arranging for visas and Bituach Leumi coverage.

Mental Health
We referred dozens of callers to therapists and other mental health professionals, guided them in arranging for kupat cholim-subsidized help, and advised families on the routes most effective for their children.
