It’s always exciting when there is a Chaim V’Chessed breakthrough on the bureaucratic front, and you’ll be happy to read about our most recent accomplishment below.
But even the most dramatic of breakthroughs can’t compare to the difference we make in the lives of dozens of English speakers every day.
In truth, it’s the day-to-day assistance we offer on an individual basis that forms the bulk of what we do: helping families through medical crises, advising lost newcomers, guiding parents through the special education maze, and offering support through difficulties large and small. The essence of Chaim V’Chessed has always been and will remain the way we are here for members of our community through every challenge, at every step of the way.
After Jerusalem’s water company began demanding large cash deposits from non-Israelis in Jerusalem upon moving to a new residence, Chaim V’Chessed got to work. We just received the verdict: this demand will be rescinded for qualifying residents!
Foreigners who are recognized by the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) as residents of Israel should now be exempt from the deposit requirement. Before filing their move with Hagihon, Bituach Leumi members should obtain a certificate from Bituach Leumi verifying their membership and labeling them “residents of Israel,” then present it along with their moving form at the Hagihon service desk in the municipality building.
