Foreign Driver’s License Conversion – Now Possible By Phone
UPDATE: Although the Ministry of Transportation had claimed that the foreign license conversion process can now be initiated by phone, this option is still in the working stages. At the moment, it is available to new olim only. Unfortunately, at this point, visa holders will have to wait until they re-open their offices in order to apply.
Foreigners in Israel for more than 12 months are required to obtain Israeli driver’s licenses. Countless foreign drivers have found themselves unable to “hit the roads” due to Misrad Harishui’s offices having been closed to the public.
Chaim V’Chessed Bureaucratic Advisor, Mrs Malky Weinman, contacted Mr. Gili Cohen, a senior official in the Ministry of Transportation, regarding this difficulty.
Cohen surprised the Chaim V’Chessed representative by appraising her that foreign license conversion can now be arranged by phone.
Applicants should make an appointment on www.myvisit.com, using their passport number. A representative of the Misrad Harishui will contact them and process their license conversion – all without having to to visit an office.
Mrs. Weinman avers that this is one of the positive outcomes of the Corona crisis. Let’s hope for more!
