Now Foreign Residents of Israel Can Also Receive Discounts on Public Transportation!
Discounts on public transportation fares have always been available for citizens who qualify as disabled, youth, students, or senior citizens. But until yesterday, those discounts were for Israeli citizens alone. This was costing families tens of thousands of shekels yearly.
Chaim V’Chessed brought the issue to the attention of MK Rabbi Yisrael Eichler. We held ongoing correspondence with the Ministry of Transportation, as well. Our correspondence began in June 2016.
Just yesterday, Chaim V’Chessed was notified that in response to our repeated inquiries, the Ministry of Transportation has issued a directive ordering all transportation companies (Egged, Dan, Light Rail and others) to extend all transportation discounts to those who have held A1 or student visas for one year or more.
Visa holders are encouraged to visit the Rav Kav service centers nearest them to update their status. The new rule may take some time to take effect in some locations depending when the instructive is made known to them. If you encounter difficulty, contact Chaim V’Chessed.
