Due to the continued spike in Corona infections, drastic flight restrictions are being deliberated by Israel’s cabinet at this hour.
Currently being considered is a ban on foreign airlines from landing in Israel, beginning January 26. If approved, this restriction is expected to remain in place for 1-2 weeks. It goes without saying that if foreign airliners cannot arrive in Israel, outbound flights will be cancelled, as well.
El Al is expected to continue flying under this proposal. However, tight restrictions are being eyed, which would limit permission to leave Israel to extreme circumstances only. Additionally, it is unclear if entry permits for foreign residents will be issued during this period.
While this news is being widely reported by the media, Chaim V’Chessed’s sources have shared that after cabinet approval, the decision will still need to pass one or two committee votes.
Still, the proposed restrictions are more severe than at any point bog the 10 month Corona crisis. While, once again, the rules are not final, all are advised to reevaluate any possible travel plans.
Chaim V’Chessed will issue further updates when more information becomes available.
