As reported yesterday, thanks to Chaim V’Chessed advocacy, foreign residents of Israel who are atzmaim (self-employed) are now able to receive the Corona grants offered by the government.
It should be noted that, as per the arrangement reached, foreign atzmaim must visit the Tax Authority office in person to apply for these grants.
The Corona grants for atzmaim are given in three stages. Application for Stage One closed on July 1. This morning, Chaim V’Chessed representatives realized that foreign residents would, unfairly, be unable to receive the Stage One grants, as the deadline passed before the new process was established. Mrs. Rachel Morgenstern, Chaim V’Chessed’s Government Advocate & Liaison, once again contacted Mr. Yigal Yamini, a senior official with the Tax Authority on this matter.
As before, Mr. Yamini responded with alacrity, announcing that foreign residents (who hold a 66 number from the Tax Authority) may apply for the Stage One grant until July 31, 2020!
Bear in mind that the deadline for Stage Two grant is also July 31. In a related development, it has come to our attention that some foreigners may actually NOT be eligible for the subsequent Stage Three grant. We are investigating this matter, and will issue an update when available.
