Earlier this month, MK Yoni Mashriki of the Shas Party visited Chaim V’Chessed offices. Mashriki, a young and energetic freshman Knesset member, serves as chairman of the powerful Knesset Health Committee.
Interaction with the Health Committee is crucial to Chaim V’Chessed work. The committee is responsible for oversight in kupot cholim and hospitals, areas that the organization is very active in. Furthermore, the committee holds considerable sway over Bituach Leumi, a body that Chaim V’Chessed works closely with.
Chaim V’Chessed CEO, Paysach Freedman, greeted the visitor and his staff, and provided an overview of the organization’s work. Mrs. Shani Wahrsager of the Medical Department shared some of the difficulties which English-speakers often experience in the Israeli health system.
One particular difficulty which caught the visitor’s attention was the topic of delays often experienced by parents seeking to place their children in a maon yom shikumi, an Early Intervention Preschool class. Olim who are unfamiliar with the system frequently experience extensive delays when seeking to enroll their children in such frameworks. This can lead to irreparable losses for a special needs child. MK Mashriki was visibly moved by these issues, and immediately offered to assist in seeking improvements to the problem. Additionally, he proposed possible solutions for various matters, while promising to seek answers for others.
We thank MK Mashriki for visiting, and look forward to working with him in the future for the betterment of our community.
