Emergency US Passports During Iran Conflict
Due to the ongoing Iran conflict and the resulting disruptions to regular government services, the U.S. Embassy is offering emergency passport services this week from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at both its Jerusalem and Tel Aviv locations for those who require a passport in order to depart Israel. Appointments are not required. Applicants are advised to arrive as close to 8 AM as possible; Embassy staff may limit entry at later hours.
Individuals whose passports are currently in the process of renewal should anticipate possible delays in processing at this time. Those who require a passport urgently for travel may present themselves at the Embassy to request an emergency passport.
In addition, the Embassy has instituted an important temporary leniency for parents of recently born newborns. As many Interior Ministry offices remain closed, preventing families from obtaining official birth certificates, parents may present the hospital-issued Hodaa al Leida in lieu of an official birth certificate when applying for a passport.
See here for Chaim V’Chessed’s detailed guide on obtaining a CRBA and passport. Please note: During this time of war, all payments must be completed in advance online at this link.
Please note that emergency passports are not valid for entry to certain destinations, including France, Belgium, Holland and the UAE.
Misrad HaPnim Services During the Iran Conflict
During the ongoing Iran conflict, Misrad HaPnim branches listed below are open daily, Sunday through Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM for clients with appointments only for Israeli citizen services.
Please understand that these branches are overwhelmed and operating with limited staff, so be prepared for potentially long wait times.
If you are a visa holder and need a birth certificate in order to apply for a foreign passport for a newborn, contact Chaim V’Chessed for guidance.
Please note: U.S. citizens currently do NOT need a birth certificate to apply for a passport for a newborn at this time. Due to the current situation, the U.S. Embassy is accepting the Hodaa al Leida from the hospital in place of a birth certificate from Misrad Hapnim.
