Tipat Chalav is a well-baby clinic where children receive vaccinations according to the schedule determined by The Ministry of Health (Misrad Habriut). Children are also weighed and measured to monitor their growth and development and are assessed for developmental milestones, such as motor skills, language acquisition and social interactions. In addition, Tipat Chalav provides parents with health education and guidance on topics such as nutrition, infant care, safety and early childhood development.
Your assigned Tipat Chalav clinic is the one nearest to your home. See below for a list of locations in Jerusalem.
In general, Tipat Chalav clinics fall under the auspices of The Ministry of Health (Misrad Habriut) and children do not need medical insurance in order to visit. In some cities outside Jerusalem, however, Tipat Chalav is operated under the local kupat cholim.
A child’s first appointment should be scheduled for when they are approximately one month old. In many locations, available appointments are scheduled far in advance, so it is crucial to make an appointment as soon as possible. Appointments can be made by phone or in person. Most Tipat Chalav secretaries operate in the morning hours, typically between 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. At each appointment, the nurse will inform parents of the next required vaccination(s) and schedule the subsequent visit. Holders of teudat zehut may also schedule appointments online via the Ministry of Health website.
If one wishes to check their baby’s weight after being discharged from the hospital, an appointment is generally not required. One can visit the local Tipat Chalav during its hours of operation. However, it is advisable to call first.
What to bring:
For the first visit, bring the following:
- The baby’s teudat shichrur (discharge letter from the hospital)
- The pinkas chisunim (immunization record booklet) received in the hospital
- The misparei zehut (Israeli ID numbers) or passport numbers of both parents and the baby (if the baby does not yet have a passport, this is not required).
If one gave birth abroad or chose not to immunize their baby in the hospital, they will receive a pinkas chisunim at the baby’s first Tipat Chalav visit.
