It is currently extremely difficult to obtain or renew US passports in Israel. This is a serious, ongoing problem which thousands of American citizens in Israel are suffering from. In fact, it is a worldwide issue, as it is difficult to obtain a US passport at all US embassies, and on American soil, as well.
Obviously, this poses great difficulty to American citizens seeking to renew passports for travel out of Israel, or to register newborns as American citizens.
Furthermore, it is especially challenging for foreign residents of Israel who are not Israeli citizens. Such residents stand to lose their Bituach Leumi and Kupat Cholim rights if they do not have valid passports and visas.
In partnership with Amudim, with whom we have been working with for years on such issues, we are attempting to alleviate this situation via various methods. Currently, we do not have a solution. However, we have been told by various governing agencies that if we can provide them with accurate data on persons affected by this issue, they will work with us to try and find appropriate solutions, both short term and long term.
